Troubleshooting & FAQ
Changes don’t show up on another device
You worked on device A; device B shows an older canvas. Walk this list top to bottom — in our experience, step 1 alone resolves most cases.

- Set the folder to “Keep Downloaded” — on both devices
The single most common cause: iCloud (or Dropbox) is showing one device a lightweight placeholder instead of the real, current file. Pin the folder so it always stays downloaded — one minute, permanent fix. Step-by-step instructions.
- Confirm device A actually finished saving and uploading
On device A: the top bar should read “Saved”, and the device needs to be online long enough for iCloud/Dropbox to upload. A Mac that went to sleep the second you stopped typing may not have uploaded yet. On a Mac, the cloud icon next to the folder in Finder shows upload progress.
- Give device B a nudge
Fully close and reopen visualOS on device B — it re-reads the folder on every launch and every return to the foreground. Also open the folder in the Files app (iPhone/iPad) or Finder and pull-to-refresh / peek inside: that prompts the cloud to fetch the newest files right now.
- Verify both devices use the exact same folder — and workspace
Settings → Folder & Workspace shows the connected folder’s name on each device: it must be the same folder (not two similarly named ones, not one folder per device). Also check the first breadcrumb: are you in the same workspace? Each workspace has its own folder and canvas.
- Look for a message from visualOS
If the app can’t read the folder (offline, still downloading, damaged file), it says so rather than guessing — and it deliberately won’t overwrite anything until the folder is readable again. See Sync messages explained for what each message means and what to do.
Still stuck?
- Check the folder on disk: does
canvas-data.json’s modification date match your last edit on device A? If not, the cloud hasn’t moved it yet — the delay is inside iCloud/Dropbox, and visualOS will pick it up the moment it lands. - Nothing is lost in the meantime: each device keeps its own changes safely, and when the folder catches up, visualOS merges automatically.
